OUR TEAM
Our dedicated team of healthcare professionals includes ten Family Physicians and one Nurse Practitioner, supported by allied health care providers from Island Health’s Sooke Primary Care Network, visiting Specialist Physicians, and our invaluable Medical Office Assistants.
Please note that West Coast Family Medical Clinic is a teaching facility. Patients can expect both medical students and resident physicians to be involved in their care.
Janelle Bellerive, Nurse Practitioner

Janelle is originally from St. Paul, Alberta. She graduated with a bachelor of science in Nursing at the university of Ottawa in 2008. She initially worked as an ER nurse in Ottawa, Victoria and Vancouver. She completed her Masters of Science in Nursing, Nurse practitioner in 2015 at UBC. As a Nurse Practitioner she’s worked in neurology, chronic pain management and most recently in oncology. She has a special interest in cancer care and palliative care. Janelle is fluent in both English and French, and she is excited to be relocating to Sooke to start a general family medicine practice.

Dr. Tracy Forsberg

Dr. Forsberg spent most of her early years in Vernon, studied Biology at Simon Fraser University and graduated from Medical School at the University of British Columbia in 2002. She practiced in rural BC, the Northwest Territories and New Zealand before starting a medical practice in Sooke in 2006, where she is the current Medical Director for Sooke Hospice. Dr. Forsberg’s patients will often meet Medical Students and Residents during their visits; she appreciates patients’ participation in this important part of medical learning. She is not currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Kristi Herrling

Dr. Herrling grew up in Sooke and studied Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Northern British Columbia before returning to the Island to study medicine at the Island Medical Program (UBC). She completed her Family Practice Residency in Campbell River and in 2017 returned home to Sooke to start a medical practice. She is not currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Hagen Kluge

Dr. Kluge was raised in East Sooke. He completed his undergraduate degree in anthropology at the University of Victoria before moving to Hamilton to complete a Masters degree in physical anthropology. Dr Kluge completed medical school at McMaster University before moving back home to complete residency through the University of BC. He opened his family medicine practice in Sooke in 2013. Dr. Kluge is actively involved in teaching medical students and family medicine residents. Dr Kluge is not currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Anton Rabien

Dr. Rabien grew up in Sooke before studying chemistry at the University of Victoria and medicine at the University of British Columbia. He worked as an Emergency Room Physician, Hospitalist, and Family Physician in Yellowknife, Inuvik, and New Zealand before opening a medical practice in Sooke in 2006. Dr. Rabien has a special interest in medical research and holds a Clinician Scholar designation from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. Dr. Rabien is not currently accepting new patients.

Dr. Tomas Vally

Dr.Vally has been living and working in Sooke since 1992. He is a graduate of the UBC Faculty of Medicine and is actively involved in medical school and family practice residency training. He is one of the physicians providing medical services to students at the local high school clinic. Dr. Vally is not accepting new patients

Dr. Devon van Breda

BIO
Dr. van Breda was born and raised in Cape Town, South Africa. He received his medical degree in 2011 from the University of Cape Town, and completed his post-graduate training at Groote Schuur Hospital. He and his wife Alison then moved to the Drakensberg Mountains in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, where he worked as a rural doctor at Emmaus Hospital for 3 years, providing health-care to the surrounding communities. Dr van Breda moved to Brooks, Alberta in 2016 practicing as a family physician, as well as covering emergency room, hospitalist, maternity and caesarean section calls at Brooks Health Centre. After 3 years working in Alberta, Dr van Breda and his family decided to move to Sooke where he joined the West Coast Family Medical Clinic, taking over Dr. Ian McKnight’s practice in January 2020.

Dr. Dataar Kaur Cheema

Dr. Dataar Kaur Cheema was born and raised in Vancouver and now happy to be serving the community of Sooke since 2021. She completed an undergraduate degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at Simon Fraser University, followed by several years in clinical research in Women’s Health. She went on to study medicine at the University of London, UK, and completed her postgraduate medical training in London, UK and then underwent further residency training in Vancouver, BC. Dr. Cheema studied and worked in Tel Aviv where she volunteered in rural refugee clinics and went on to volunteer at similar clinics in London, UK. She is fluent in both English and Punjabi. Outside of medicine, she enjoys hiking, reading, travelling, cooking, and painting and is excited to serve the community of Sooke.

Olivia Reyers
Social Worker
Olivia grew up in Ontario and moved to Vancouver Island in 2016. She completed her Bachelor of Social Work in 2021. She previously worked in community support work and mental health and addictions before joining Sooke’s Primary Care team in 2022.
Responsibilities:
- Assessing and connecting to resources for social determinants of health.
- Promoting patient advocacy.
- Addressing holistic needs of patients through counselling and support.

Brooke Clarke
Registered Nurse
Brooke grew up on Vancouver Island and completed her nursing degree in 2019. After six years of medical-surgical nursing, she recently made the switch to primary care. She loves working in a team-based clinic where there are family doctors, social workers, dietitians, and mental health professionals all under one roof. It’s all about patient-centered care for her- making sure every patient gets the support they need in one place, from physical health to mental well-being.

Donna Guhit

Rebecca Littlejohn

Certified practice in reproductive health and rural/remote nursing.
With a strong foundation in emergency medicine from her time at Victoria General Hospital, Rebecca joined our clinic in 2023, bringing both experience and compassion to her role. Since then, she has been actively involved in providing outreach services throughout the Sooke community, helping to bridge gaps in care and support vulnerable populations. She holds certified practice in sexual health and is passionate about empowering patients through accessible, informed healthcare.
Jordie Allen-Newman
Counsellor
Registered Clinical Counsellor and Clinical Supervisor with the BC Association of Clinical Counsellors (#2493) Master of Arts Specializing in: Sociology, Counselling Psychology, and Social Science Research. Specialized Training in: Mental Health Care, Substance Use Issues, Psychological Trauma, Family Therapy and a Wide Range of Counselling Therapies for Children, Youth, Families and Adults.
Jordie is a Clinical Counsellor with West Coast Family Medical Clinic and Island Health, bringing 30 years of experience supporting individuals, couples, families, and groups through life’s challenges. His approach is person-centered and feedback-informed, focusing on your goals and what works best for you. I live in Sooke with my wife and our therapy dog, Indiana Jones. Outside of work, I volunteer with Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue – Station 37 and guide in the sea kayaking and whitewater paddling communities.
Jennifer Watt

Jenny studied Nursing in Johannesburg, South Africa and became an RN in 1989. She moved to Canada in 2011, worked as an RN in Maple Ridge on the Mainland for 10 years before moving to Sooke in 2021. Key responsibilities: Provide comprehensive and continuous nursing care within Primary Care Setting. Chronic disease management, Health promotion and Education. Direct client care and coordination of care with other members of the healthcare Team.
